China produced 19.57 million colour television sets in the first quarter of this year and exported 45 per cent of them, an 18.3 per cent jump over the corresponding period previous year.
The colour TV units production grew 0.1 per cent between January and March, China video Industry Association said.
The CRT (cathode ray tube) TV sets output fell 56.2 per cent, while that of flat panel TV sets increased to 43.8 per cent, the association added.
Quoting Sun Xinguo, head of the research and consulting department of the video industry association, official Xinhua news agency said, the colour TV sector’s production cost had increased mainly due to appreciation of Chinese currency, Yuan, enforcement of new labour law, end of tax holidays for foreign funded enterprises and readjustment of tax rebates for export.
